Pre-insulated steel pipes have always been considered the standard choice for district heating systems due to the relatively low cost compared to the wide operating ranges: working temperatures up to 120 °C with peaks of 140 °C and pressures from PN16 to PN25 .
On the other hand, the correct installation of these products requires a highly qualified workforce: in fact, welding and joints are present in large quantities and can be considered, if not done correctly, a significant weak point for the lifetime of the pipeline.
